The Law Offices of Howard A. Snyder represents hundreds of diabetics who were prescribed the medications Avandia, Avandiamet and Avandaryl and who suffered serious injury, namely Heart Attack, Stroke and Congestive Heart Failure. In 2007, Dr. Steven Nissen, cardiologist of the Cleveland Clinic, reported in the New England Journal of Medicine that diabetics taking Avandia had an increased risk of Heart Attack and Cardiovascular related death. These risks are significant, a 43% increased risk for Heart Attack and 64% increased risk of Cardiovascular Related Deaths.
Soon after Dr. Nissesn’s report the FDA changed the labeling of Avandia. Initially a labeled box warning, commonly known as Black Box Label was added for increased risks of Congestive Heart Failure. A few months later in November of 2007 a Black Box Warning was added for Heart Attack. Since then hundreds of diabetics have contacted the Law Offices of Howard A. Snyder to ask for help with their lawsuit. Our firm has a distinguish reputation for being able to handle complex and difficult Pharmaceutical Drug Injury cases. Our attorneys know exactly what must be done to prosecute your case and have led the attack against the pharmaceutical industry for years.
But new, more disturbing information surfaced in February of 2010. The New York Times published information that confidential government reports recommending the drug be removed from the market have been suppressed from the public. Dr. David Graham and Dr. Kate Gelperin of the FDA said Avandia should be removed. The Times went on to reveal Dr. Steven Nissen, faced-off with GlaxoSmithKline executives just before his 2007 publication and said to them point blank, “I’d Pull The Drug.” The statistics released by the Times have sent shock waves through the public. 500 heart attacks and 300 cases of heart failure monthly occur to diabetics using Avandia. 304 deaths in the third quarter of 2009 alone are linked to this dangerous medication.
